Create your size chart manually
Understanding Product Size Charts
Also called spec sheet or PoM chart (PoM = Point of Measure), the size chart is a synthesis of the essential measurements of your garment. It’s a key support for the pattern maker in generating patterns for the garment. This chart undergoes regular updates during the process to identify any inconsistencies and necessary modifications following the initial sample.
It's an essential part of the tech pack for every garment.
On Rechain PLM, the size spec of a product is available in the “Measurements” tab of a product.
Create a Size Chart on Rechain PLM: choose the most efficient option for each situation.
Let’s explore the different options of the creation of a size chart
Create your size chart manually
Create it from an Excel file (article here)
Create it using existing points of measure from your library (article here)
Generate it using a template (article here)
Generate it using an existing product (article here)
This article focuses on the first option. Feel free to explore articles that present the other options.
How to create your Size Chart manually
Here is the page you see when you open the “Measurements” tab of a new product.
First, I suggest you add sizes to this product. To do so, click on the “Edit” button and then on “Size”.
Now you can see this side panel, where you can:
Create the sizes
Mark a size as the “based size” (required to use the grade rules feature)
Once you are done, you can click on “Save Changes” (3)
There you go! Your sizes are now created.
If you need to reorder your sizes, simply go back to the side panel with the size list and reorder them using these buttons.
Now, let’s create some points of measure. To do so, click on the “Edit” button and then on “Point of Measure.”
Now create you PoM in this side panel and click on "Save Changes".
This measurement table works like a spreadsheet: you can click on the cell of your choice to edit its content. For example you can:
Add a photo/sketch to illustrate the instructions on how to measure this PoM.
Assign a code to a point of measure.
Edit the name of a point of measure.
Add instructions for a point of measure to ensure all stakeholders working on this product will measure it consistently.
Edit the tolerance
Edit the measurements
Tip: You don’t need to add a “-” or “+” symbol before the tolerance. The system automatically detects it based on the column.
Tip: You can use the “Draw measurement” feature to draw on your photo/sketch and illustrate how to measure this PoM.
Well done, now you know how to add manually sizes and points of measure to the size chart of a product!
