Creating and Managing BOM Templates with Placeholders
When creating the Bill of Materials (BOM) for a new development, you may not have all components confirmed in the early stages. However, you may still want to indicate that certain components will be defined later. You can now create BOM templates with placeholders to represent these future components.
How to Create a BOM Template with Placeholders
- Navigate to the BOM Templates library.
- Click + New Template.
Enter the following details:
- Template Name (Mandatory)
- Brand (Optional)
- Labels (Optional)
- Click + New BOM Template.
Your template has now been created. Click on it in the library to begin editing.
Adding a Placeholder to the BOM Template
Click + Create Placeholder.
Fill in the placeholder details:
- Placeholder Name (Mandatory)
- Component Placement (Optional)
- Component Note (Optional)
- Component Category (Mandatory)
- Click + New BOM Placeholder.
The placeholder has now been added to your BOM template.
Note: To add additional placeholders, repeat the above steps until your template is complete.
Applying the Placeholder Template to a Product
- Navigate to the Product Library and select the desired product.
- Open the Bill of Materials tab within the product.
- Click Add from Library.
In the pop-up:
- Click on Templates
- Select the checkbox next to the desired template
- Click Add to Colorway
- Select the checkbox next to the relevant colorway
- Click Done
The component placeholders have now been added to the product’s BOM.
Note: When a placeholder is added to the BOM, below the placeholder name, you will see the word Placeholder identifying it. The placeholder will also be blank under the colourway headings until you replace with the actual component.
Replacing a Placeholder with the Correct Component
Once you are ready to define the actual component:
- Select the placeholder by checking its checkbox.
- Click Replace.
You will be directed to your Component Library.
- Select the checkbox for the correct component.
- Click + Replace Components.
The placeholder is now replaced with the finalised component (e.g. fabric).
